At the dawn of time, there were two distinct types of people. Each of them was required and one was not more important than the other. The first group went out and gathered berries, fruits, nuts, and grains. for the tribe. The second group went out and hunted for meat. Both groups were crucial to the survival of society.
Yet, the skills needed to complete each task were different. Using sight and smell, taste, and touch, the gatherers went about searching for food that was there for the taking.
Once these gatherers learned to till the soil, they became farmers. No longer did they have to search for food. Then, they became tenders of the crops, assuring that there would be food for everyone, even when the hunters were unsuccessful.
Hunters were different. They had no patience for tending crops and so went off in search of the animals to kill. They used all their senses, especially those of sight, smell, and hearing. They were alert at all times and ready for action. If they weren't constantly searching and wary, they would lose the meal or maybe be eaten by it.
How does this apply to modern times? Well, we still need hunters and we need farmers. The farmers are the linear folks. They support everything that goes on in our day-to-day life. They're administrators and caretakers. ADD people are different. More like the hunters, we're constantly looking for the next new thing. Though we're quick and smart and are able to think on our feet, we aren't finishers. We're often people who create the systems.
We just aren't tenders. We might set up the systems, but without linear thinking people to maintain them, there would be no society. It's just vital that there are two types of people in the world. While people with attention deficit are labeled as such, it's only because most of today's society is based around jobs that require tending. But our ADD brains aren't built that way!
If you're in a linear job and are unhappy because of it, then find another job that suits your ADD brain. Not all jobs require that you sit still and follow instructions. Try something creative, like writing or artistry. Or become an entrepreneur, like I am. It's perfectly suited to people with ADD. I'm able to create projects and with the help of the linear people on my team, see them through. It works out great!
ADD people are also problem solvers. So, find a job like being an electrician or even a CSI detective. Decide what works with your personality and your ADD. Think about what you're excited about, and when your hyperfocus kicks in, decide what you were doing when that happened. Those are the areas where you should be looking for work.
Just forget the labels that society has place on us because ADD people aren't very good at routines. We're definitely every bit as important to the success of society as are linear-thinking people. If you have a linear job and aren't satisfied, then find another job that works better with your ADD. Life can be sweet, when you find the spot that makes it that way.

Acquaint Yourself With The Medieval Weapons And Medieval Swords
We all know that medieval weapons belonged to knights who used them to fight their enemies. 9 Ways To Cope With Wedding Speech Nerves
If you’re not used to public speaking, then making a wedding speech can be very daunting. With this in mind, I have prepared a few important tips to help you overcome your nerves and deliver a great wedding speech.
1. Remember these people are on your side. They aren’t secretly hoping you’ll mess things up. The reason you’re there giving a speech is because you are connected with the people there, and so are the audience. Bearing this in mind, you can rest assured that anything you say in your wedding speech will be listened to and respected fully.
Also, people listening to speeches at weddings are wanting to laugh as this breaks the tension. So any vague attempt of a joke will get you a response.
2. Practice your wedding speech thoroughly. The more your practice, the less nervous you’ll feel on the actual day. Remember to practice the intonation of your voice and the pauses. By showing you’ve put effort into your preparation, any mistakes you may make on the day will be easily forgiven.
3. Learn your speech by heart. Whenever you have some spare time, in the car on the way to work, in the shower or wherever…practice your speech. Repeat it over and over again as many times as you can before the big day. You will feel much calmer on the big day as you’ll know the whole speech inside out.
4. Remember to breathe. As simple as this sounds, it is often overlooked. Practice where you’ll take a breath in the speech, and learn to breathe correctly. Diaphragmatic breathing, as used by singers and public speakers, will help you here. If you’re unfamiliar with this, a quick search on Google will show you.
5. Think of a funny story before you stand up. Nothing so funny that you loose you focus, but something mildly titillating that will bring a smile to your face. This will loosen you up, and give a nice energy to your wedding speech that will improve the delivery immensely.
6. Have a banana 20 minutes before you make your speech. This tip is often used by professional public speakers, and helps the nerves of many people. It also gives a nice energy boost which helps reduce your nerves.
7. Speak slowly and clearly. If you are nervous, you will feel the urge to speed up and your speech will become unclear. So try to consciously slow yourself down and speak clear so people can hear what you say.
8. Make eye contact with people in the audience so it feels like your just chatting with everyone who is there.
9. Lastly, remember to simply enjoy yourself! Your life isn’t going to end if you make a few mistakes…and it will be over in just a few minutes. Have fun!

8 Tips For Picking The Perfect Wedding Dress
When little girls spend their math classes daydreaming of weddings (instead of winning the World Series -- not to say you can't do both), what do they dream of first? The perfect wedding dress, of course: a gown in white satin with a bustle and sweeping train, the perfect embellishments, and the perfect shoes.
There are few occasions in our modern world where a woman finds herself in a position to wear a no-holds-barred ball gown, much less a crystal tiara, and all too many where she's called on to wear to a neutral suit or uninspiring "biz-caz" combo. No wonder that with so many brides, their wedding plans start with the dress.
Many of these brides are lucky. They may search high and low, braving chilly department stores and pushy bridal shops, but eventually they come face-to-face with The One. They know this is The One because they start crying, or their mother or friends all start crying at once. Suddenly the rest of the planning ... the theme, the tone, the right kind of venues ... it all springs to life.
Other brides aren't as fortunate. They've searched just as hard, working their way through shops across three or four states, but they haven't found The One. Instead, they've found three or four Contenders, all of which are serviceable and nice, but not earth-shattering enough to tell them that now is definitely time to stop the searching and get on with the planning. These brides have it harder.
Even if you're the first kind of bride, buying the dress is such a momentous decision that you run a risk of falling into that wallet-skinning category known as the Two-Dress Bride. Here are some tips for picking the perfect dress and avoiding that awful fate.
1. Bring the entourage, but don't buy. It's fun and useful to bring your mother, friends or sisters on the dress-shopping expedition. It gives you a buffer against an overbearing sales staff, and it's fun to see if your impressions of perfection are shared by your loved ones, not to mention how they'll love being part of such an important decision. But no matter how enthusiastic everyone gets over a certain dress, don't buy in the heat of the moment. Give yourself time to reconsider and buy with a cool head later, alone. The vast majority of dresses are non-returnable, so when you've bought it, you've bought it.
2. Don't buy too early unless you must. Bridal gowns can take four to ten months to come from the manufacturer, but there's no reason to buy over a year ahead of time, unless your chosen style is going to be discontinued. Give yourself some time to sit on your decision. Once you pick a gown, you'll see a hundred others nearly like it. You'll become a walking encyclopedia on that style of gown. All the better if you still have room to choose.
3. If you've bought "The One," stop shopping. Any more window-shopping at this point will only lead you down the road toward the dreary land of Two-Dress Brides. What you need to do instead is remember that blissful feeling of having tried on The One. Go get The One out of the closet, put it on and stand in front of the mirror. You'll remember exactly why it's The One.
4. If you've bought "The One" and can't stop shopping, get a second opinion. Show your first and second choices to other brides. Be honest -- tell them you've already remortgaged your condo for the first dress, but you think this second dress might be It. They'll be truthful, too -- the first one was better. You'll feel reassured.
5. Don't tell yourself "I'll sell the old dress and choose a new one." This old saw of the Two-Dress Bride just won't work. You'll never get more than a fraction of what you paid for your first dress if you bought it new.
6. Don't be afraid to aim high -- no matter what your budget. Some brides knew from the start they wanted a designer label, but life just didn't cooperate by making them heiresses. Yet all is not lost if you're willing to shop courageously. At any given moment, a better-heeled bride is selling her once-used St. Pucchi or Ulla-Maija on eBay. She paid thousands upon thousands, but you, smart shopper, will pay half that or less. To take this road, you must shop earlier than other brides so you'll have a choice of gowns. Always pay with a credit card so you'll have recourse if the dress doesn't arrive in acceptable condition, and again, shop early so you can buy another if necessary. Shop courageously, but not recklessly.
7. Shop online, but never send a check. Bridal gown businesses sometimes have a way of disappearing overnight. No matter what the proprietor tells you, never make a purchase as large as a wedding gown without the chargeback protection of a credit card. If they say they can't take plastic, move on.
8. Don't hold out forever for The One. Some brides never find The One. What they do find is a few dresses they look beautiful in. If you're this bride, try starting your planning from the theme instead of the dress. You'll probably eventually get sick to death of dress shopping. When that happens, "good enough" really will be good enough. Concentrate on other aspects of the wedding that mean a lot to you, like the venue, the food, or the inevitable adoration of your soon-to-be husband.

6 Degrees Of Separation Between You And The Whole World
Social networking has been defined as the interaction between individuals or organizations within a social structure. Within an online social network, individuals or organizations which can either be casual acquaintances or closely related by blood can easily interact through messaging, blogs, picture sharing, chain mails, videos, music and a lot of other communication tools available in social network websites in the internet.
6 Degrees of separation
In the late 1960’s, a social experiment called small world hypothesis was done to prove that any two persons can be connected through a social network by 6 degrees of separation. This was done by successfully passing a message from one person to a target person through acquaintances of the people in the link. Although most of the links in the experiment failed to complete, the electronic version of this experiment as well as the online social networks today has proven that we can indeed reach out to almost anyone in the world through our contacts.
Social Networking Websites
Social networking websites have recently become very popular in connecting people sharing the same hobbies or interests. These social networking websites can be, in a way, regarded as online communities where different people from all over the world can share their opinions, views, thoughts and generally everything that can lead to the development of relationships or friendships. To make it easier for people to integrate themselves into these social network sites, groups or organizations can often be found in social networking websites where you can meet people with the same interests, religion, locality, view in politics, etc.
Upon completing the registration for these social networks, you can then begin to familiarize yourself with what the social network has to offer. This can be done easily through browsing the member’s profiles, reading the blogs or bulletin boards and chatting with the other people online. This way, you can make friends with other people you wouldn’t have the chance to be friends with in the real world because of geographical, political, social and other limitations. Interacting with the people online will also make you aware of the different cultures, religions and people present in the social network which will be very beneficial in expanding your knowledge about the world around you.
Dangers of Online Social Networks
Online social networking however comes with its own dangers and risks. There had been several incidents in which a dangerous person would pose as a different one in these networks and lure unknowing victims into meeting them. Because of this, most of the social networking sites have placed restrictions and limitations as to who could join the network and what the minimum age should be. Some social networking websites have also placed barriers for the registration of individuals having a criminal record and some schools have even gone as far as prohibiting the use of the social websites to their students.
Being aware of these dangers though, will help you enjoy and maximize the benefits you will get from these online social networks. So if you’re ready to test your own small world hypothesis, look up these social networks online now.

5 Tips To Select The Best Wedding Reception Location
Being disc jockeys, we get the opportunity to evaluate many reception facilities while having little or no bias to "sell" one location over another. Most Brides and Grooms know where they will be holding the ceremony before they decide where to have the reception, so we have compiled five observations that can help you when selecting your venue.
Distance - If people have to drive a long way to get from the ceremony to the reception, some will get distracted or decide to do something else. Try to keep the reception within a 15 to 30 minute drive of your ceremony. If it is not possible to get a reception hall close to your ceremony, make a caravan. Have the Bride and Groom lead the parade, and people will follow you to your reception.
Time - Time is just like the distance issue. If your reception is several hours after the ceremony, people will get busy doing other things and not show up for the reception. Try to start the reception within an hour or two of the ceremony. If you don't want to start your wedding dance at 4 o'clock in the afternoon, have a Meet and Greet mixer before your reception. Serve some punch and get people to mingle. This will be one of the few times that both families will be together. Encourage family members to share stories about your childhoods.
Size - People like their personal space, and they have most likely spent an hour packed into a church for your ceremony. If you let them spread out, they will enjoy themselves more. Make sure your reception hall has plenty of room for your guests. The people renting the location might tell you it holds 200 people, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will hold 200 people comfortably! Make sure to visit the venue before booking.
Climate Control - Having a summer wedding? Is your reception hall air conditioned? If people sweat while just sitting, they won't dance. On the flip side, if they are cold they won't dance either (who wants to dance in a parka?). Also make sure you know who has control of the thermostat so the temperature can be adjusted if needed. Chances are your reception will be warm and stuffy while all the guest are there, but as they trickle out during the night the room will begin to cool down.
Smoking - This is a hot button issue, but if your reception hall is non-smoking, you can fully expect smoker's to leave your reception for 15-30 minutes every hour. If enough of them leave the reception area, you may find a large percentage of your guest just hanging out in the smoking area. This can be a big problem if you have many smokers in your wedding party. You don't have to allow smoking, but it is something you should consider, especially if anyone has any health problems like asthma or allergies that could be triggered by smoke. If you decide not to allow smoking in the reception area, how close is the nearest place for a smoker to go? Is it close enough that you will be able to get needed wedding party members during events like the bouquet toss or garter auction?
Facility coordinators will no doubt bring up several other factors for you to consider when you interview them for your booking, but these are often missed items, especially if they don't favor the potential venue. If you keep the overall picture in mind and work with your wedding planner or event coordinator on the decorating ideas, you will no doubt have an enjoyable and memorable wedding reception.

5 Steps To Get To Know About Your Ancestors
It is always fun to discover who are our grandparents, great grandparents, etc, especially if they were popular and smart people in their times.
If you want to satisfy your curiosity about your ancestors, these are the steps you can follow. Reveal all the secrets you want to know about your family by:
1. Getting Started in Genealogy
Do you know that there’s a study of family history? Yes, it’s called genealogy. It will unlock the door to what your family has lived through and provide you with a look to the world that they were exposed to. You’ll find that this is a very rewarding experience to be in.
2. Working on the Living Members of Your Family
Your family is a great source for genealogy research. The first thing that you will want to do is to work on names of ancestors by interviewing your families. What you’ll do next is to try to construct a family tree based on the names that have been given to you. In these interviews, you can also ask anything you want to know about your ancestors. For example, your relatives perhaps can tell you about the cities in which your family members grew up in or whether someone was in war. These are informational pieces that you can use to begin your journey into the past.
3. Finding Sources for Genealogy Research
Be creative in finding information. Using the web is absolutely a helpful effort. For example, if you learn that your mother’s grandfather was in the military, you may be able to find information based on this on the web. You could use old military records or even find info about something that he did heroically. These small pieces will open up the puzzle of your genealogy.
4. Taking Genealogy Research Further
As mentioned before, using the internet’s wide resources is very advantageous. There are also other ways to take the research: using the online databases provided by church organizations, using message boards, joining forums, and writing or looking for genealogy blogs. You probably couldn’t find the information you have been looking for by doing these, but at least they provide you with good advice on how to find your ancestors. If you become stuck and really want to track your family’s history, consider calling on a professional genealogical individual to help you in the pursuit. Often, they provide more information because they have the necessary resources already established to help you.
5. Preserving Your Genealogy Research
When you have taken time to do all the searches and collected so much information about your ancestors, it is now time to preserve all the data safely. Probably the best way for you to do this is to secure the information in a genealogy software program. This program will not only offer you a place to store all valuable information that you have learned so far but also help you get more solutions to your needs. Your genealogy means everything to you and you must provide the best preservation for it.

5 Steps to Finding a Memorable Wedding Favor
Your wedding is not just a celebration of your love; it is also a way to thank the special people in your life. Wedding favors, in particular, are the expression of that gratitude. It says “thank you for being there”—and also, is a token of affection.
That’s why couples should give as much thought to their wedding favors as they do to any other detail in the wedding. Why give something boring and generic, which will only end up gathering dust in the corner of a closet? Make it special, make it beautiful, and make it unique—something that, when seen, will make them remember you and your wedding.
You’ll find many unique ideas for wedding favors. Here are just things to consider as you choose from the selection:
* Follow your wedding theme. Did you have a beach wedding? A little glass jar with sand and shells can be used as a paperweight. Add a romantic quote or a verse from a poem with a sea theme, and you have something appropriate and practical. Dried flowers pinned against a refrigerator magnet make a lovely garden wedding favor, while a Medieval themed wedding can have chocolate coins in a velvet pouch.
* Be nostalgic. Dress up a photo frame with a couple portrait, or a CD with your favorite music. Even an ordinary box, useful for odds and ends like paperclips or jewellery, becomes a touching wedding favor if it’s filled with potpourri and a personal note from the couple thanking the guest for “sweet memories”.
* Give something useful, but dainty. What about a champagne charm with a heart (to “toast” your new life), with a note that says that you hope that your guest will have many days as happy as this wedding is for you? A sachet with potpourri, to put into the closet, can also carry the scent of the flowers in your bouquet. These are things that they won’t buy for themselves, but will definitely appreciate—while carrying the theme of your wedding.
* Think “sweets”. Chocolates and candies are always a welcome souvenir, and can be wrapped to reflect the theme of your wedding. If you have a very elegant evening wedding, try rum balls in a small gold box; or if you have a seaside wedding, give chocolates shaped like sea shells. You can even ask some suppliers to form your monogram into a chocolate, or have chocolate handpainted to look like little bouquets of flowers.
* Even “ordinary” wedding favors become extra special if they’re presented properly. Try grouping your wedding favors to become part of the table centerpiece. For example, little boxes of chocolate, arranged in a tier, can add to the beauty of the reception area. Or, you can have chocolate rosebuds inserted into your regular floral centerpiece—now that’s a “sweet” discovery!
There are so many unique wedding favors that the problem isn’t what to give, but which one to give. And with the large variety, there’s bound to be one that fits into your budget and theme.

5 Situations In Which You Might Hire A Private Investigator To Conduct Surveillance
Surveillance is the process by which behavior is monitored. Surveillance can involve the use of video cameras, or still cameras, or recording equipment or even one individual following and noting the actions of another.
Through surveillance, a number of activities can be uncovered. Here are five situations in which someone might hire a private investigator to conduct surveillance.
1. A spouse suspects that his wife or her husband may be cheating. This is a common situation in which a private investigator is hired to conduct surveillance. When you hire an investigator, you'll no longer have to sit at home and wonder if your spouse is out with someone else, where he or she is supposed to be or if your suspicions have merit. He or she can be watched from a distance, followed to certain locations and – if necessary – photographed to provide the necessary evidence of an affair.
2. Before joining in on a new business venture, an entrepreneur wants to verify that their investor is who he or she claims to be. In this case, surveillance by a private investigator will involve conducting a background check – something that can also be done by parents who are looking to hire a live in nanny or by homeowners or business owners who are looking to hire a general contractor for work. Similarly, surveillance may be done by a families who are looking into care facilities for elderly loved ones to ensure that they will be getting the best care possible.
3. A business owner suspects that one of his or her employees may be embezzling from the company. When a business owner feels that an employee is being disloyal to or stealing from the business, it is important to identify which employee is at fault. Surveillance with cameras or even through the computer network can help to identify the source of the problem.
4. When an absentee parent stops making child support payments, a private investigator may be called in to conduct surveillance to determine if and where the person is living and working. Similar investigations may be conducted to identify the location of those who owe a business money and are refusing to pay.
5. Insurance companies may ask a private investigator to conduct surveillance when they suspect that someone who was injured in an accident may be overstating their injuries. Surveillance in this case may uncover the person participating in activities that their limitations should prohibit – giving the insurance companies grounds for no longer making payments to that individual.
Are their other reasons why someone may consider hiring a private investigator to conduct surveillance? Of course there are.
If you suspect that surveillance should be conducted to determine the actions of another individual, do not try to do it yourself. A private investigator will have a strong sense of regulations in your area and will be able to conduct that surveillance is legal and safe – surveillance that you'll be able to use to prove your case, if it comes to that.
If you think that you need the surveillance that a private investigator can provide, contact someone in your area who can answer your questions.

55 Gallon Drum Pumps
When you need to be able to measure out a very specific amount of a substance from a drum, you will always need to use some kind of pump for dispensing. The size, weight, and sheer bulk of a standard 55 gallon drum means although pouring via a chute is possible when precision is not required, you are never able to pour smaller amounts. Under circumstances where you need to be able to dispense a fixed amount of liquid from a drum, having a reliable and accurate pump in place is a real boom, and will help you make the most efficient use of resources by reducing overall wastage. There are a wide range of different 55 gallon drum pumps available, and these serve various different purposes, so choosing the correct model for your needs is essential if you are to get the most out of it.
One of the first things to consider when choosing the 55 gallon drum pumps is what kind of liquid you need to dispense from the drums. For thin, light liquids such as water and light oil, you can use a regular piston pump, as very little force is required in order to get the liquid out. These lightweight pumps are simple to use, and maintain, and thanks to their low cost, it is completely reasonable to get several at the same time to ensure that you can extract liquid from drums as efficiently as possible.
When a heavier gauge of liquid is being stored in the drum, a standard piston pump will not have the power to draw up the fluid without a great deal of effort from the operator, and a more powerful system is required. Some companies offer a number of 55 gallon drum pumps that feature a lever attached to the top of the standard piston. This, coupled with a larger chamber in the piston makes it much easier to pump liquid out of the drum and into an appropriate receptacle to be used elsewhere in the building or site.
The drawback with both kinds of piston based pump is that they are both limited to producing a relatively uneven flow of liquid, and this can lead to spillages and accidents. When the liquid is pumped out using a piston, the pressure varies immensely, and this results in pulsing. If the receptacle that the liquid is being pumped into is not placed in a suitable position, the liquid might miss and end up on the floor.
An alternative to a piston pump is a rotary pump. With these 55 gallon drum pumps, you will be able to get a steady flow of liquid out of the drum, and even deal with the heavier gauges of oil and even paint. The liquid will be drawn up steadily from the drum, and dispensed at an even rate into a bucket or other small storage container.
One of the main times when you gain a huge advantage by using a rotary pump is when you are dealing with volatile chemicals or solvents. These must not be spilled, because of health and safety concerns, so minimizing the risk is essential.
One area in which you will find that 55 gallon drum pumps are able to really save you money in the long run is in how they are able to extract all the contents of the barrel. With a hose that stretches all the way to the bottom, you can be sure of getting every last drop of liquid out, meaning that you reduce wastage, and in turn cut costs over the long term, which is excellent news for business.

55 Division – A Lesson In Community Policing In The Beach
As always, Gene Domagala is the perfect person to make connections. With the date for my photo exhibition rapidly approaching and the need to finalize my articles and get the photos ready, I had not planned to do any further interviews, but Gene suggested that one organization could not be missing from my article series about the Beach: Toronto Police Service 55 Division, an organization with whom all the special events organizers work regularly. In his words 55 Division is extremely supportive of the Beach and a very positive force in the community.
Gene made a phone call to the station, and within minutes of the phone call I hopped in my car to drive to Dundas and Coxwell Avenues to meet the officers at 55 Division. Gene introduced me to Superintendent Wayne Peden, the head of the station and after introducing the Celebrate Toronto project Superintendend Peden started to give me a general overview of 55 Division. He explained that the policing area of 55 Division extends from the Don River in the west and to Victoria Park Avenue in the east, and from Danforth Avenue in the north to Lake Ontario in the south.
Superintendent Peden added that the police play a critical role in all the public events in the Beach, including the Beaches Jazz Festival, the Easter Parade and the Ashbridges Bay Fireworks. He used to work in this area in the 1980s and was just transferred back to this station last year. According to Superintendent Peden the Beach is a very safe area, with the main concerns being traffic and parking. He described the Beach as an excellent place to live and work. Many police offers want to work at this station, and Superintendent Peden enjoys his new location.
55 Division has about 235 employees including front line officers, detectives and investigative offers as well as community response officers who work with the community to resolve issues. Examples could include barking dogs, or driveway disputes, or teenagers that might be up to mischief. The idea is to resolve issues before they become problems.
During big events 55 Division officers work with the organizing committees of the respective events to ensure that the festival or the parade are going to run smoothly with minimal inconvenience to the locals. During major events for example, all the main streets north and south of Queen Street East have to be blocked off, and this is 55 Division’s responsibility. Once the roads are closed, the organizers take over and handle things from there.
Superintendent Peden started to fill me in on some of the community issues that are going on in 55 Division: from volleyball programs for teenagers from at-risk communities to school safety and anti-bullying education programs, officers from 55 Division are involved in a wide variety of community endeavours about which I would shortly learn more. The Superintendent added that his station has a very good working relationship with the community and the politicians in the area. 55 Division strives to provide a strong visible presence and to be recognized as an integral part of the community.
As he had to go, Superintendent Peden handed me over to Sergeant John Spanton who was going to explain things to me I more detail. He explained that there are several different units within 55 Division: a Primary Response Unit (PRU) that involves first line policing, emergency call response and apprehension of criminals. In addition community problems and outreach is handled by the Community Response Unit (CRU). Sergeant Spanton added that the division has one officer who is in charge of educational outreach in elementary schools; in addition two full-time officers handle the liaison with local high schools.
One of the important mandates of the Toronto Police Service is to encourage greater community integration. In addition a concerted effort has been made to attract more visible minorities and women into the police force. Sergeant Spanton explained that today many of the officers that are being hired are quite a bit older than what used to be the case in the past. The recruiting process takes life experience into consideration, and Toronto’s demographic diversity is increasingly being reflected in the faces of the Toronto Police Service. A wide variety of different ethnic and cultural groups are represented within Sergeant Spanton’s own team of officers. More officers with different language skills are being hired as well to be able to communicate with the various immigrant groups that call Toronto their home.
Another officer joined us: Regina La Borde is a 15-year veteran with the Toronto Police Force and now a full-time Elementary School Liason Officer. After many years of front-line policing she has become a full-time educator and crime prevention officer for 55 Division. Her curriculum includes topics such as traffic safety rules and not talking to strangers which are taught to children in junior and senior kindergarden. In Grade 2 safety and street proofing continues. Topics such as what to do when you get lost and telling your parents at all times where you are and what you are doing get covered. The curriculum for Grade 4 includes Internet safety and cyber-bullying. The concept of never talking to any strangers, even online, is emphasized as well.
In Grade 5 bullying becomes the key topic while drug awareness takes centre stage in Grade 6. Students learn about the different types of drugs, such as alcohol, marijuana, cocaine or ecstasy; they also get educated about the drugs' biochemical effects as well as about the legal consequences that can happen if they get involved in drug use. In Grade 8 the focus is on youth violence and gangs to prepare students for what they might be facing in high school. Materials such as videotapes and Powerpoint presentations are used to illustrate the concepts, and the entire curriculum is presently being updated to reflect current realities.

50th Wedding Anniversary Speech - After 50 Years Together
Giving a speech after 50 years of marriage would seem to be really easy, but expressing your emotions after 50 years doesn’t always get easier, sometimes it gets more difficult because the emotion becomes stronger, deeper, and more complicated. Whether you are the husband or wife or a dear friend that would like to make a speech, it can be difficult to find the right words to say that encapsulate a love that has been able to withstand 50 years of marriage.
If You Are One of the Couple
If you are either the husband or the wife, you should thank all of the guests for coming to celebrate 50 years of marriage with you. You should then express your gratitude to your spouse for hanging in there with you for all of these years. Share a story or some feelings with your spouse and your friends and family about a particularly inspiring time, loving time, difficult time, or a moment of levity in the 50 years of marriage that you think is appropriate. You can present your spouse with a gift during your speech as well, which is a great way to end your golden anniversary speech!
Where to Start
Starting a speech can be very difficult, so the best way to start off is with a brief introduction of yourself if you are not the husband or the wife. For instance, you don’t need to give your entire background you can simply say, “Hi, I’m Jane. I am a long time friend of Bill and Nancy and am so glad to be here today.” This will give the other guests that are at the party some idea of who you are and why you would want to give a speech at all!
What to Say
50 years of marriage, what do you say? If you are married, thank the couple for being an inspiration to you and your spouse. Thank them for sticking together and being two people that everyone could count on. You can tell the couple that you hope that your marriage can be as strong after 50 years as you know that theirs is now. If you have one, share a cute story that you think demonstrates the strength and beauty of the couple’s love. You can also present the couple with a gift, a framed picture, or a framed piece of scripture or a poem during your speech. The point of the speech is just to convey how happy you are for the couple for sticking together for 50 years, as well as to express what an inspiration they are to married people everywhere.
How to Close
Closing the speech can be the most difficult part after starting! The best thing you can do is say congratulations and that you hope to celebrate many more anniversaries, and thank them for sharing their day with you. The closing needn’t be anything extravagant, and there will likely be someone that will follow you in their congratulating the married couple for their 50th wedding anniversary.

At a time when a man and a woman want to make the ultimate commitment to spend the rest of their lives together, the desire to have personalized vows is certainly understandable. This is one of the most unique and special days in a person’s life, so if you want to speak your own personal wedding vows, than by all means, you should go for it!
Writing your own vows can be intimidating. Wedding days always add pressure to even the most mundane of tasks, and certainly writing the vows you want to say to your significant other in front of all your friends and family is no small matter! Still, don’t let fear cause you to go along with some basic commonly used wedding vows if you really want that personalized touch. Just follow a few basic tips, and this will help you be on your way to writing the tips your future spouse deserves!
1. Write from the heart. Your wedding day represents the epitome of love between you and your future spouse. The two of you are together for a reason. Anything you write should be honest and from your heart, because that is what will really make your words special.
2. You don’t have to be Robert Frost or Emily Dickinson. If you are a poet, great. Keep in mind, though, that in the end words are just words. Your wedding vows do not have to be an amazing classic piece of literature—they need to be an honest display of your feelings for the other person. Don’t use long poetical words if all it does is put distance between your words and your feelings.
3. It’s okay to brainstorm. Before you set down to write everything, make a list of the things about your spouse that you absolutely love about your spouse, then make a list of the commitments you want to make. Figure out what parts of those lists you really want to include (keep in mind the vows are read in front of families and friends) and keep those.
4. Short and Sweet. It doesn’t take many words or a lot of time to make your heart known to everyone present. A lot can be said in a really short time, so don’t feel like you have to make the vows any longer than they naturally come out.

3 Famous Black Fridays
While the term “Black Friday” may often be used to describe any Friday the 13th, there are also a variety of things in history that happened on a Friday, which then became known as a “Black Friday.” Some of the events that later received this name include floods, fierce fires, and even a riot. The following are a few “Black Friday’s” that the world will not forget.
Friday Flood
On May 31, 1889, one of the worst and most well-known floods in history occurred, known as the Johnstown Flood. This flood occurred in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and was actually caused by a dam that gave way. This flood actually killed more than 2,000 people and the town was devastated by the flood waters. It was at this point in time that the Red Cross, which was led by nurse Clara Barton, actually responded to its first disaster and offered help and relief to hurting people. While it was a dark day, the Red Cross was born into a disaster relief organization like no other.
Friday Fires
Another “Black Friday” that many people will never forget occurred on January 13, 1939. On this day, wildfires broke out in the country of Australia, and to this day they are still known as the worst natural fires that ever occurred. Almost 5 million acres were burned by this fire and 72 people were killed as well. This fire was devastating, and the ecological and economical repercussions lasted for decades after the fires were extinguished.
Friday Fighting
February 9, 1945 brought about another “Black Friday,” which consisted of the fiercest air battle of the Second World War between the Germans and the British. This air battle took place over Norway. During this famous air fight, there were actually 15 airplanes that were shot down and 24 men died during this battle. Few have forgotten the bravery that was shown on this day.

10 Tips To Survive An Unexpected Holiday Hurricane
As you pack the last items of your luggage, ready for your tropical vacation, nobody likes to think about the event of a natural disaster. The thought that a hurricane could ruin your perfect ‘relaxing’ break in the sun should rightly be the last thing from your mind, but if you’re heading to a region where such natural disasters are known to occur, it can never hurt to be prepared. Of course worldwide travel insurance can provide some peace of mind that you’ll be reimbursed for your medical fees or lost valuables, but in terms of survival, some hurricane advice is absolutely essential. For that reason, we’ve compiled a list of 10 things you can do to ensure your safe return to the UK.
So, if you hear of a warning, follow these 10 pieces of hurricane advice to ensure you stay safe in the event of disaster:
1. Listen to local media sources, to stay informed
Keep an eye on local news and an ear on local radio! Latest developments will be shared this way, and they will offer insights into when any hurricane is due to strike. If the local hurricane advice is to evacuate, you’ll hear it here first!
2. Talk to your tour or travel operator
Stay in touch with your travel or tour operator. They may be able to offer additional hurricane advice and, combined with local radio reports, will let you know if you need to leave the area immediately.
3. Make alternate return travel arrangements home
If a hurricane does hit the resort and/or country you’re staying in, you can anticipate widespread damage. Airports are not above these hits, and it may take some time for them to reopen if they take some serious damage. It may be wise to make alternative travel arrangements to get back home after the incident, and rearrange home-based commitments if you have any. You could be here a while!
4. Stay inside, away from doors and windows
If a hurricane is due to hit, and you don’t have time to evacuate the area as advised, then ensure you are indoors when it is due to strike. It is absolutely essential that you ensure you are far away from all doors and windows when it strikes.
5. Make a hurricane supply kit
If you’re going to be confined to your hotel or apartment for the duration of the hurricane, make sure you’re prepared. Think enough food and water to last 24-48 hours, batteries, flashlights and medication.
6. Contact the UK consulate
The UK consulate can provide assistance for UK citizens, but only if they know you are here! Make contact before and after the hurricane.
7. Make a list of emergency contact numbers
Yes, your mobile phone may store all the contact numbers you will need, but you can’t guarantee your phone will have charge when you need to access them – and it may be impossible to charge it if the power is out in the affected areas! Make a hard copy of all the telephone numbers you will need, so you can make contact with friends and relatives somehow after the hurricane.
8. Get all your documents together before you need to evacuate
You may need to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Get all your important documents (ID, passport, travel insurance certificate, driving license, etc.) together in one place so you have everything essential to hand if you have to leave quickly.
9. Secure the building’s openings against the hurricane
Tape, board over or shutter any openings to the building – doors and windows alike. Ensure that any sliding glass doors are wedged to make sure they don’t lift up from their tracks. This will minimize the chances of injury from broken glass.
10. Take your worldwide travel insurance certificate along with you
Take your worldwide travel insurance certificate with you when you travel (you did get travel insurance, right?) Not only will you need to produce the worldwide travel insurance certificate when making a claim, but if you require emergency treatment, the hospital will want a copy when you are first admitted – otherwise you may be stuck with a huge bill you cannot afford!
Obviously, the chances of you being caught in an unexpected hurricane in the middle of your holiday are remote, but these tips can make a very real difference, and could save your life and keep you free of injury should a natural disaster occur.

10 Must Have Gift Ideas For The Wedding Party
It is traditional for the bride to give the groom a gift on the wedding day. Although the wedding rings that the couple exchanges can be considered gifts, many brides choose to honor their groom with an additional gift that suits his personality.
The gift of the bride and groom exchanging gifts is beginning to fade as many couples who spend a great deal of money on their wedding or honeymoon may decide that there is no need to exchange gifts in addition to the wedding and honeymoon. If you do decide to honor your groom with a gift on your wedding day, it is more important to choose an item that he is sure to enjoy than it is to spend a great deal of money on the gift.
A photo album complete with a picture of you and the bridesmaid or the entire wedding party can be another unique gift idea for the bridesmaids. You could purchase photo albums with the date of your wedding engraved on the front cover and start the photo album with a picture of you and the bridesmaid. This is a wonderful gift idea because the bridesmaid can place her photos from the wedding day in the album and will always have a precious souvenir from your wedding day.
Gift certificates to a spa or a salon also make unique gift ideas for your bridesmaids. Your bridesmaids most likely spent a great deal of time and energy in helping you to plan your wedding. The week prior to your wedding was also probably especially hectic with a great deal of last minute details to attend to and errands to run. While you will have your honeymoon to relax and renew your energy your bridesmaids do not have this luxury so by honoring them by presenting them with a gift certificate to a spa or salon you are giving them the gift or being pampered and the gift of relaxation.
A few more unique gift ideas for your bridesmaids’ gifts include handcrafted or homemade gifts. For example you could put together a CD of some of your bridesmaids’ favorite songs. You could make the CDs different for each bridesmaid and include a photo of the two of you on the cover and include a heartfelt poem on the inside of the CD cover. You could also create a scrapbook for each of your bridesmaids. You could either make the scrapbook a memory of your entire friendship together and include photos and other items from your various adventures throughout the years or if you plan ahead and take many photos documenting your wedding preparations, you could create scrapbooks as a remembrance of the wedding planning that you shared.
Any item that relates to a specific hobby that the groom enjoys is a great idea for a wedding gift for the bride to give to the groom. This is a popular choice because giving a gift that relates to one of his hobbies demonstrates that you understand his likes and that you want him to continue to engage in activities that he enjoys.
Another unique gift idea for a bride to give to her bridesmaids is a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Assisting in your wedding preparations was probably extremely stressful and time consuming for the bridesmaids and they certainly deserve a night on the town and the opportunity to not have to cook for a night. This simple gift lets your bridesmaids know that you appreciate their efforts and that you want to thank them for all that they have done to support you.
Unique gift ideas for the bridesmaids can also stem from the wedding theme. For example if you are having a beach themed wedding you might want to give your bridesmaids a gift of a tote bag, a beach towel and a novel to enjoy on the beach. This unique gift idea ensures that your bridesmaids will remember your wedding fondly the next time they are at the beach.
Although the tradition of the bride and groom exchanging gifts on their wedding day is beginning to fade, many couples still wish to honor this tradition. Many couples spend so much money on their wedding and reception that they feel as though they cannot afford the additional expense of buying gifts for each other. While it may be true that the couple cannot afford one more extravagant gift it is also true that a truly thoughtful gift for the groom does not have to be overly expensive. If the couple is partaking in this tradition it is advisable that they exchange gifts that truly reflect the personality of their spouse.

101 Wedding Vows is proud to have received a 5 star rating from Review Place. “101 Wedding Vows is absolutely perfect for anyone who is about to be married no matter what kind of ceremony you are planning, no matter how you want to express your feeling for the one you love, this book cannot be beaten for the ultimate expression of heartfelt sentiments," said Steve Crawley, a spokesman for 101 Wedding Vows.
101 Wedding Vows is written by Les White. Recently married himself, he knows how very important that special day is and how everything needs to be just right. It can be very nerve wracking sitting down trying to pour your heart onto paper. Or even if you just want to write a humorous, fun or light hearted vow, while still trying to portray the right message to your husband/wife to be. Because Les knows that the process can be very time consuming, not to mention rather stressful during the whole wedding planning process he decided to write this book, for everyone who knows how they feel about the person they are going to marry, but at the same time is having trouble expressing it in words. This book is for all those people.
“Our reviewers have thoroughly examined and checked the services offered by 101 Wedding Vows and are fully satisfied with their complete range of services. This amazingly valuable work has been divided into 8 comprehensive sections that cover every type of marriage vow that you could ever need to use. From Gods words, to humor, to truly international vows there is something for everyone in 101 Wedding Vows,” said Andy West, of Review Place.
